Hi, I’m Laura.
I always loved history, geography and art when I was in school. As an adult I have been fortunate to be able to travel and see many of the places and landscapes that I learned about all those years ago. It is these experiences that often inspire my artwork as I attempt to recreate the wide variety of rock formations, climates and flora that exists on our planet. In particular, I enjoy discovering new plants and flowers to paint and spend much of my creative efforts on botanicals.
I live in Toronto with my husband and our youngest son. Our oldest is off on his own adventure with his wife who he married this last summer. By day I work a job in corporate real estate. In my day job I use very different skills, but my heart has always belonged to art, which was why I started my art practice in 2019.
When I paint the entire world melts away and all I feel is the joy (and sometimes struggle) of making the paint move around the canvas. It is the joy and peacefulness that I hope to emphasize in my artwork.
When I am not painting, I love thrifting and antiquing with my family. It is one of the activities we enjoy together as we search out treasures and sift through history. This love often blends its way into my art practice, whether it’s by using vintage ephemera papers in my artwork or how I frame my artwork.
My paintings are now in private collections in Australia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Canada and the United States. You can purchase my art from my Etsy shop, during an event or through the gift shop at the Art Gallery of Guelph.
