Art Clothes
When I was a teen I had a few of my dad’s old shirts that I wore for painting. They were button down work shirts that he no longer had use for. The sleeves of the shirts had little smudges of paint on them from where I dragged my arms through a painting or two…
Alice in Bloomland
This weekend I visited the Alice in Bloomland exhibit at the Royal Botanical Gardens with my sister, sister-in-law and son. I knew that there would be whimsy and an air of magic in the exhibits as is known with a theme such as Alice, but what was unexpected was there sheer amount of orchids on display.
Spring Inspiration
The first day of spring is just around the corner and I my head is buzzing with inspiration. I have been planning and applying for a bunch of spring events and I am so excited for the season to begin.
First Pattern
One week of the 100 Day Project has passed and I have finished my first pattern. To create the pattern I started by painting blue flowers in gouache on watercolour paper.
The 100 Day Project
The 100 day project is back and I am participating in it again this year. Today is the first day of the project and I have plans to do things a little differently this year.
Music to Paint To
I often paint in silence. It’s more for practical reasons than for preference as I paint at my dining room table. We have an open plan living room-dining room, so I am often joined by my husband reading at the table beside me and my son watching television around the corner.
But when I play music while I paint, I turn to opera and classical music
Playing with Abstraction
One of the things that draws me to another artist’s work is the painterly quality of their paintings. In particular I love landscapes painted in an impressionist style with short brushstrokes working together to create the image.

Expect the Unexpected
For those who know me well, they know that I am a planner. I like to plan a book events months in advance, I even plan weekends to do nothing. What this means is that occasionally, plans that have been made have to change and flexibility is needed to adapt.

A Year In Review
It’s always around this time of year that I like to go back and look at what I have accomplished in the year. I take a look at the stats and see where I have grown as a business to see if it is in alignment with my efforts for the year. This process helps me to plan for the following year and to review if I need to pivot.

Favourite Things
My last market of the year finished last weekend and after the hustle and bustle of setting up booths and greeting the crowds of people, the following quiet in the aftermath is a welcome rest for an introvert like me. While I enjoy talking to people about art and meeting new vendor friends, I also find it very exhausting and a little recharge is necessary after market days. In the quiet of this weekend, I am reflecting on all of my favourite things about the holidays and I thought I would share some with you.
November Squares
Today I am talking about the November Square art challenge that I participated in for the month of November. This was a month of creative exploration and I talk about what I like about art challenges and this one in particular.

Welcome Home
I am so excited to finally reveal the new home for LAURA FOSTER ART. I have wanted this website for a long time, but I always put it off, thinking it was going to be too hard or that maybe I didn’t need it yet because I had an Etsy shop and social media to market my artwork. Even though I had these thoughts, I still really wanted a place to call my own where I could share my art practice.
